Vision Zero Action Plan

Every week, 5 people die and 35 people are seriously injured in Central Florida crashes. Between 2018-2022, 329 people were killed on roadways in Osceola County.

2024-0620_Osceola-County-Stats-800px.png The Osceola County Vision Zero Action Plan (VZAP) is being developed as part of a coordinated regional initiative, Vision Zero Central Florida, by MetroPlan Orlando and its agency partners. MetroPlan Orlando was awarded a $3.79 million federal grant under the 2022 Safe Streets and Roads for All Action Plan program. This funding is being utilized to develop a comprehensive Regional Vision Zero Safety Action Plan for the three-county area (Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties) as well as action plans tailored for each county and city, including Kissimmee and St. Cloud.

The development of the Vision Zero Action Plan also fulfills provisions from Osceola County’s Vision Zero Resolution (#22-142R) which was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on March 7, 2022. Specifically, the resolution directs the creation of a Vision Zero Action Plan that:

  • Is based upon a comprehensive analysis of traffic deaths and injuries in Osceola County; and
  • Addresses traffic deaths and serious injuries through a combination of engineering, enforcement, education, and evaluation.

The Osceola County Vision Zero Action Plan development process includes multiple elements that work together to create a comprehensive community-based document with clear policy recommendations and an actionable work plan. The Final Action Plan sets the stage for implementation of prioritized projects that strategically address identified needs, all with the purpose of moving toward the goal of Vision Zero.
