The Office of Sustainability was formed in October 2021 to organize, guide, and coordinate sustainable initiatives as a commitment to ensuring environmental sustainability in Osceola, Florida.

Sustainability Action Plan

With a commitment to the residents of Osceola and the green future of the County, the Sustainability Office has made significant progress. Please see below for history and ongoing updates for the Sustainability Action Plan for Osceola County, Florida.

2012 - Sustainability Action Plan

Adopted in 2012, the Sustainability Action Plan(PDF, 769KB) set goals for instituting a sustainability program for Osceola County. Progress has been made in a number of areas with oversight from the Sustainability Office to ensure continued implementation of this Plan.

2017 - Strategies for a Sustainable Future

Adopted in 2017, the Strategies for a Sustainable Future(PDF, 23MB) addresses key issues facing the County, including fiscal sustainability, lack of affordable housing, homelessness, and jobs-housing balance.

2020 - Osceola Green Initiative Comprehensive Plan Element

Adopted in 2020, the Osceola Green Initiative Comprehensive Plan Element updated and expanded on the 2012 Sustainability Action Plan. The Element includes actions designed to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and impacts of climate change.

2022 - Urban Forest Management Plan

In February 2022, the Board of County Commissioners adopted an Urban Forest Management Plan(PDF, 12MB) and is working to increase the tree canopy throughout the County. Tree giveaway programs, planting along rights-of-way, expanding our tree farm, and tree maintenance all are part of this plan.

Ongoing Updates

In 2024, the County will update its Florida Green Local Government certification.
