Osceola County, Florida – Osceola County today officially opened a new, 6.9-mile multi-use recreational trail along Fortune Road and Lakeshore Boulevard – the latest addition to the County’s 200-mile Master Trail Network Plan.
The new Fortune Lakeshore Trail is 10 to 12 feet wide, and includes the restriping of 11 existing crosswalks, the addition of five new crosswalks, and a new 145-foot pedestrian bridge over the C-31 Canal. The trail stretches along Fortune Road, from US 192 to Lakeshore Boulevard, and along Lakeshore Boulevard from Fortune Road to Columbia Avenue.
Osceola County Commission Chair Cheryl Grieb was joined by Commissioner Viviana Janer and a host of dignitaries at ribbon cutting ceremonies lauding completion of the Trail.
“This Trail provides a fabulous new recreational AND commuting opportunity for our residents, reconnecting our communities with a bicycle and pedestrian friendly travel option,’’ Chair Grieb said. “I’m particularly grateful to our partners at the Florida Department of Transportation and MetroPlan Orlando for helping us fund this project.”
The $10.1 million project broke ground in January of 2022, and was partially funded with $9.4 million in grant funds from FDOT and MetroPlan Orlando.
“This is a great day for ALL of our residents,’’ added Commissioner Janer. “Expanding our trail network is an important part of the County’s multimodal approach to enhancing our infrastructure and giving residents more options to get around Osceola County.”
The Project was designed by Vanesse Hangen Brustlin (VHB) Engineering and constructed by Southern Development Construction Inc. (SDC). Construction, engineering and inspection (CEI) oversight services were provided by Carnahan, Proctor & Cross Inc.
